As long as the name is in the logo, do I essentially have the same protection as the name trademark as well?

If your brand name is included in the logo, it is protected only to a certain extent. This is because a logo trademark that includes the name and a wordmark registration provide different types of protection.

To clarify, a wordmark protects the name itself in all visual representations. A logo trademark protects the mark only as shown. The name within it is covered as a constituent of the combination, but it isn’t covered independently. In a situation where a competitor uses your brand name in a completely different visual style with no reference to your logo, a wordmark would give you the legal ground to act against it, but the logo trademark may not.

For full protection of both elements, separate registrations are the most reliable approach.
